“It’s a very, very weird film and has scared off distributors from day one,” Rifkin previously told Entertainment Weekly.
Director’s Cut (2016) is a mind-bending horror-comedy that blurs the line between filmmaking and obsession. Written by and starring Penn Jillette, the film follows Herbert Blount, an unhinged superfan who kidnaps the director of a crowdfunded thriller and takes over the production himself. Through his own “director’s cut,” Blount injects himself into the film, reshaping it into his twisted vision while stalking its lead actress (Missi Pyle). Directed by Adam Rifkin, Director’s Cut is a satirical, darkly humorous take on fan culture, the movie industry, and the dangers of unchecked obsession. With its unique blend of found footage, behind-the-scenes chaos, and meta storytelling, this cult favorite offers a wildly original cinematic experience.
Dread Central shines the spotlight on Director's Cut deemed too dangerous, weird, and misunderstood by other studios.

Dread Central presents Director’s Cut, directed by Rifkin, the film also stars Penn Jillette, Missi Pyle, Harry Hamlin, Hayes MacArthur, Lin Shaye, and 4,736 crowdfunders such as Lexi Love and Eric Thirteen.

Did You Know?
Adam Rifkin and Penn Jillette raised $1,164,928 through 4,736 crowdfunders to bring Director’s Cut to life.
A genre-defying, meta-cinematic experience, Director’s Cut is a mind-bending thriller that plays with the very concept of filmmaking. Co-created by Penn Jillette, the film reflects his stage persona—an illusionist playing with perception. Under the direction of Adam Rifkin, Director’s Cut blends narrative fiction with a twisted documentary-like structure, offering an unpredictable and thrilling ride.
Starring Missi Pyle, the film follows a cinephile stalker who kidnaps his favorite actress and forces her to star in his amateur film. The chaos unfolding behind the scenes blurs reality and fiction in a way that will leave audiences reeling.
Thanks to Director’s Cut, Lexi Love is now a proud member of SAG-AFTRA!
Slamdance TV interviews director Adam Rifkin, writer and lead actor Penn Jillette, and supporting actor Raymond Joseph Teller about their innovative meta-movie, Director’s Cut. The film made its world premiere as part of the 2016 Slamdance Film Festival’s Special Screenings on opening night.
Missed the festival in Park City? Don’t worry—the next screening of Director’s Cut is set for February 2, 2016, at ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood as part of the Slamdance Cinema Club series.
Due to high demand, ArcLight has moved the screening to a larger theater and released more tickets for the previously sold-out show. Secure your tickets soon!
WHEN: February 2nd at 8 PM
WHERE: ArcLight Cinemas Hollywood (6360 Sunset Blvd)
The film’s concept reimagines Adam Rifkin’s Knocked Up as hijacked and re-edited by the obsessive and unhinged Herbert Blount. Using a mix of completed footage, deleted scenes, and his own on- and off-set recordings, Blount reshapes the film into his own disturbing vision. Most notably, he documents himself stalking, kidnapping, and coercing actress Missi Pyle into filming new scenes—driven by his obsessive infatuation with her.
